Whether I’m on stage, drawing in the studio, or working with a student, it all comes back to a simple joy: the love of making something new. For me, music and visual art are completely connected—I simply play what I see and draw what I feel.

 

Life at Cygnet Studios

I am based in Churchdown, Gloucestershire, where my husband, Paul, and I run Cygnet Studios. Our home is a lively, creative hub dedicated to rehearsals, recording, and teaching woodwind and theory. When I'm away from the studio or the garden, I am usually found with ink on my fingers, turning musical rhythms into structural designs.

 

On Stage

My musical roots run deep in Gloucestershire, starting with the Youth Jazz Orchestra in my teens. Today, I perform widely across the region—from the close, conversational jazz of the Cygnet Quartet to the wall-of-sound energy of The Jay Cee Big Band, Crescendo Big Band, and the Splanky Saxophone Quartet.

As a self-taught artist, my work is a visual improvisation heavily influenced by the architectural geometries of musical instruments. My illustrations thrive on stark contrasts. I love balancing meticulous, clean line work with playful silhouette characters, botanical touches, and vibrant explosions of colour. Just like the jazz I play, my art is all about finding freedom within the structure.
