Painting of a Baritone Saxophone by Diane Arthurs

About Diane

Music and creativity are at the heart of all I do. Whether I’m on stage, drawing, practising in the studio, or working with a student, it all comes back to connection and the simple enjoyment of making something.

Life at Cygnet Studios.

I’m based in Churchdown, Gloucestershire, with my husband, Paul, a musician and producer. Together we run Cygnet Studios, a space for rehearsals, recording, and teaching. It’s a lively, music-filled home. When I’m not teaching woodwind or theory, I’m often stepping in as a house session musician on Paul’s latest projects.

On Stage

Playing the saxophone and flute has taken me to some special places. I perform with the all-women Splanky Saxophone Quartet and The Jay Cee Big Band, and every performance feels like a chance to connect. From the close, conversational feel of the Cygnet Duo and Quartet to the energy of the Jay Cee or Crescendo Big Band, I’m grateful to share the stage with such brilliant musicians.

Beyond the Studio

Away from music, I spend time painting and working with ink. It’s another way to explore emotion, and tell stories—just in a different form. When I’m not creating, I’m usually in the garden if the weather’s good, or inside with a book when it isn’t.
